Abysmal Dawn is an American blackened death metal band from Los Angeles, California. Their latest album, Programmed To Consume, was released in 2008. After his departure from long running local blackened/death act Rise, Charles Elliott (vocals/guitar) and former Inhuman Visions bandmate Jamie Boulanger (guitar) formed Abysmal Dawn in 2003. With drummer Terry Barajas, the trio released their first three-song demo in October 2004. It garnered the band critical praise within the underground metal press circuit, as well as earning them some high-profile gigs in 2005.

In November 2005, the band entered Shiva Industries in Santa Ana to start work on their debut release, From Ashes. For the recording, the band enlisted the help of longtime friend and live bassist, Mike Bear (Ex-Prototype, Artisan).
